London Day 4: I Spy with My London Eye...

· London Medicine 2023

We started off our 4th day in London at Guy's Hospital, which is part of the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. We heard multiple lectures from Dr. Paul Johns, a consultant neuropathologist for the NHS, spanning topics from general anatomy to brain structure and pathology. In between lectures, we had the opportunity to explore human anatomy through a hands-on experience with human cadaver and brain specimens. Halfway through our six-hour program at the hospital, we went to Borough Market for a quick bite.

After a morning of probing tissue and an afternoon brimming with brain anatomy, we took the Tube and rushed to the Thames River for our live-narrated sightseeing cruise tour. Our tour guide was super informative and even made lots of great jokes to accompany the sights we saw along the river. We were able to get another look at Big Ben and the Parliament, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, and more. We even got the chance to ride in our own pod on the London Eye (which isn't actually a ferris wheel but a cantilevered observation wheel, meaning that it is only supported from one side)! From the top, we were able to catch great views of London's spectacular skyline.

Following our loop around the wheel, we started a scenic walk along the Thames River toward our dinner destination, Anchor Bankside, a traditional UK pub where we dined just like the locals. Tired from a long day, we returned to Wombat's, ending our busy day filled with medicine and sightseeing alike!
