Costa Rica
Cloud Forests of Monteverde
About
BCA will be partnering with the Council on International Educational Exchange which will organize a experiential, interdisciplinary program located in northwestern Costa Rica, Monteverde which lies along the continental divide at the crest of the Cordillera de Tilarán mountain chain, which is blanketed by a cool, wet cloud forest extending down into the Atlantic lowlands. As a result of its unique history and geography, Monteverde is a stunning home to exotic flora, fauna, and wildlife.
The program is designed to examine the causes and consequences of climate change from both scientific and social perspectives. Students will explore local and global climate change issues, including documenting climate-related changes in biodiversity, conducting laboratory investigations, and studying climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. The program also includes a research project. Through interactive learning, students will engage with farmers, engineers, scientists, and policymakers, reflecting on both their own experiences and expert insights. Along the way, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture.
